How to Accept and Deposit an INTERAC e-Transfer Sent from Simplii Financial Into Your Bank Account

As part of their grand opening, Simplii Financial is offering from INTERAC e-Transfers. I sent one to test how it’s done. Now I’m going to accept the INTERAC e-transfer from Simplii and deposit the money into my account at another major Canadian bank.

What You’ll Need to Accept an INTERAC e-Transfer

To accept the transfer from Simplii Financial, you’ll need to have a Canadian bank account. You’ll also need to know how to sign in to that bank account online.

You will also need to know the correct answer to the question provided in the email. If you’re not sure, get in touch with the sender, don’t guess!

Do NOT accept an INTERAC e-Transfer if you don’t know who sent you the money and why. There are scams out there with fake e-Transfers to try to get at your banking information! Call and confirm with the sender that you are supposed to be getting the e-Transfer.

Depositing an INTERAC e-Transfer from Simplii Financial

Open the email message that contains the e-Transfer.

Interesting! Either Simplii or INTERAC remembered where I deposited the last one I received because it’s asking if I want to deposit the money with Big Canadian Bank 1 or a different financial institution.

Just to keep INTERAC guessing, I’ll choose another bank this time.

Click on the icon for the offered bank, or click on the button Select a different financial institution.

The INTERAC e-Transfer Page
Choose your bank from the icons or from the drop-down list of Institutions.

The online banking screen for your bank should appear.

As prompted, sign in to your bank account.

When prompted, type the answer to the question sent by the person sending you the money.

Review the Transfer details.

If appropriate, select into which account to deposit your money.

Click Accept.

If provided, make a note of the Confirmation number in case of any problems in the future with the transfer.

Sign out of your online banking. For increased security, clear your browser history and cache and close your browser session.

That’s it! The money’s mine now!

I notice an email was also sent to the email address I use with Simplii Financial to tell me that the transfer has been accepted.

How to Accept an INTERAC e-Transfer from PC Financial and Deposit the Money In Your Bank Account

I recently sent myself an INTERAC e-Transfer from my PC Financial No-Fee Chequing Account. I want to deposit the money into my TD account. Here’s what I did to accept the INTERAC e-Transfer and deposit the cash into my bank account.

Accepting and Depositing an INTERAC e-Transfer from PC Financial

First, I confirmed that the message was from the right sender, and for the correct amount of money.

There are a lot of scam emails out there pretending to be about cash transfers. Don’t accept one unless you know who sent it to you and why. The other messages are just trying to get your banking information so they can raid your accounts!

Click on the button: Deposit your Money.

It should take you to the etransfer.interac.ca webpage.
From the icons, choose your bank. As of June 6, 2017, banks listed include

  • ATB Financial
  • BMO
  • CIBC
  • Desjardins
  • HSBC
  • Laurentian Bank
  • Manulife Bank
  • National Bank
  • PC Financial
  • RBC
  • Scotiabank
  • Tangerine
  • TD

You could also, click to Select Your Financial Institution from a drop-down list.

Or

  • Click to Select Province or Territory and then
  • Click to select Credit Union.

I clicked on the TD icon.

I was then re-directed to my usual TD bank sign in page. I did carefully check the URL and other facts to make sure I had been re-directed to my bank’s site.

Sign into your online banking the way you always do.

The Receive Money page

In my case, the next page I see is a Receive an e-Transfer page.

  1. Review the details, if they are ok, type the Response: to the security question in the text field.
  2. From the drop-down list, select where to put the money in the Deposit to Account field.
  3. Click on the Deposit Money button.
  4. Review the transaction information. If it’s correct, you’re done!
  5. Sign Out of your bank account.
  6. For increased security, clear your browser history and cache, and close your browser session.

That was easy!
